Star Detective Precure: Website Reveal

Cure Answer 💜: She looks amazing! I can’t believe I ever thought her design was boring. I love everything about her hair: the buns, the layered side bangs, and the overlapping heart-shaped hair. The pink gradient really makes it pop a lot more than I thought.
Though, I get the complaints that her civilian form is too similar to Iroha’s (I’ve barely seen any of that season and still feel deja vu looking at her), but they kept my favorite parts of Cure Answer’s hair and her sakura patterned beret is adorable.
Cure Mystique đź©·: The blue highlights and purple gradient in her hair made her already amazing design even better. The fact that her little ahoge behind the bow is only visible through the back view is really funny to me for some reason.
I really like her civilian form. She has that same shade of red that Akira Goto does and I always like a red hair-green eyes combo. Her outfit also feels like a proper kid detective to me. Definitely a candidate to be my favorite alongside Arcana.
Cure Eclair 🩵: I tried to give this design a chance earlier when it was just the bust leaks but I can’t.. The blue and orange was already enough contrast without adding in yellow, purple, and green. The visible belly, two different types of skirts, and asymmetrical leggings don’t look great either. I am scared that the majority of her silhouette is in a green gradient.
Cure Arcana Shadow 🖤: Her design managed to surpass my already high expectations for her. She’s definitely one of the most beautiful cures all of time. I really love every element of her design. The hair vents, long bangs, and the back braids. How she keeps the silhouette of a bob (very similar to Hatsune from Ave Mujica) but also has lovely billowing blonde-pink hair in the back. I love how her hair already shows that even though she’s serious, she also has a bit of a silly side to her with the way her bangs extend out like antenna and her double ahoge. Her overcoat is also the most militaristic/noble of them all.
The grey hair in her civilian form really surprised me, but it looks amazing with the purple eyes… Her hair tucked behind her ear is also criminally adorable and I can’t stop thinking about it. I also like the bow peaking out from her undercoat and her layered skirt.
My biggest complaint with the designs is how they reused the same hair vent for all three of the civilian forms.
The fairies are even cuter now that all the little details (mainly the fluff to be honest) is visible. Mashutan 💜 is just as much of a diva as Cure Arcana. I love the ear fluff shaped as wings and the inner ear coloration shaped as hearts. I love their smug expression and floating earrings. I can’t wait to see their bond with Arcana, as she’s already holding them in her civilian form.
Pochitan is cute too, of course, but I’m most intrigued by the mention of this only being her baby form that she was forced to revert to after exhausting her power.
Anna Akechi 💜 and Mikuru Kobayashi 🩷’s personalities were exactly what I was hoping for when the designs originally leaked. It’s the typical duo where one has a stronger intuition due to their sensitivity to emotions and one has a stronger grasp of logic but is awkward, but I like the gap that flipping the typical color coding of 💜=mysterious and 🩷=innocence gives them. I also just love serious girls who embrace cuteness in general, so Mikuru has grown on me even more.
Ruruka Moria 🖤 is an unexpectedly adorable name for this girl. She’s described as someone who can’t be boxed in and has a hidden passion. She already reminded me a lot of Shion from that alone, so it was a funny coincidence that her birthday is November 1 (Shion’s is November 11).
The protagonist being transporter back to 1999 from 2027 is a really fun twist on the detective concept and I’m already bracing myself for the bittersweet end. They’re also not kids pretending to be the detectives they admire, but actually enrolled in some sort of school or agency to become real detectives.
The initial leaks led me to think Arcana is a villain and the bust leaks from earlier led me to think she wasn’t, but funnily enough the answer seems to be in-between the two. She’s both a Precure and part of the enemy Phantom Thieves, so I wonder how that’ll develop.
I’m super hyped to see where this goes. I’ll keep rotating them in my head for the next few weeks.
The producer comment makes me even more excited because of how beautiful and passionate it is. I think it’s interesting how she explicitly defines “truth” in this season in opposition to the single, unchanging truth of a detective story. The importance of “truth” in her view becomes the journey of figuring it out for yourself, facing and treasuring your feelings and the feelings of others without losing yourself. The future, or the end of that journey, becomes the “truth.”
Maybe it just resonates with me more than it should because I’ve put off deciding what to do as an adult in the AI world. I still struggle immensely with what or whose feelings I should honor. Meanwhile, everyone thinks they have the answer to solve all my problems overnight when all they know is what worked for them.
I also really like the detail of making Cure Answer the junior detective and making her assistant Cure Mystique the experienced (or at least in comparison) detective.
I’m also looking forward to seeing how the voice actor comment about paying attention to the circumstances that made Cure Arcana Shadow an antagonist and a Cure at the same time will play out.
