Star Detective Precure: Lie Lie, Sir

This episode was even better than the last one. The answer was less obvious and the mystery tied in quite well to the lore reveal that they’re fairies. I already like Jett-senpai as much as the girls now, he makes for great comedy relief when he’s a practical-minded 222 year old genius being bossed around by the most stubborn 14 year old girls. At least they can find a common point in their idealism.
Ageseine was awesome. I loved the scene of her making faces behind a very desperate and vulnerable Nijī. I wonder if the implication of that banter with Jett-senpai was that she’s an older girl pretending to be hip and trendy? I also wondered if Ageseine was going to pick male disguises to mirror Nijī, but then I remembered that the leaks said the next villain will already appear. At least compared to the Precure I’m watching right now (Hirogaru Sky), it feels unusual (in a good way) for the villains to have this sense of urgency early on. I wonder if that means we’ll know what the big bad’s deal is much sooner rather than later. I definitely still want to see more of the villains already introduced though.
Luluka continues to intrigue by almost doing nothing. The OP already seemed to imply a more personal connection with Usonoir (“it’s destiny, it’s love”), but it’s even more interesting to see her relaxed in her casual clothes eating ice cream while the others are desperate to prove themselves. Mashutan seems similar to Luluka in that she does things at her own pace and is soft spoken. But it’s really interesting how even though she seems to care for Luluka enough to keep wording things in a way to prompt her to speak, she seems smug when delivering the message from Usonoir on Luluka’s behalf. I’m really curious what kind of relationship the two have (is the “small voice” Mashutan reassuring Luluka?). Right now, Luluka seems very ojou-sama.
Luluka appears in the next episode teaser again, but since there’s another villain being introduced, she’ll probably play a subtle part again. But if the next villain gets punished by Usonoir as fast as it seems like Ageseine will, then it probably won’t be long until Cure Arcana Shadow is sent out. I can’t wait for the main duo to react to her. This seems like a plot heavy season, thankfully.
It also felt really fitting for Mikuru to parallel the same vow Anna made in episode 2 in this episode’s ending. The idea of Anna returning to the agency after she returns to her time already feels bittersweet. I can’t wait to see where this show goes this year.
